Over the last six months, BROTHERS has taken the city of Halifax by storm - quickly climbing the performance ladder with energetic and captivating performances while providing listeners with a new style that is sure to make you tap your feet. A primary blend of Hip-Hop & Rock with a splash of Alternative & Pop, BROTHERS count in with grabbing harmonies and thought provoking lyrical content. Their philosophical dance music will make you think and get EXCITED to move your body, remembering what it is to be alive.
It all started back in 2012 when Tyler and Taran began their musical collaboration by driving across Canada, making an album by recording a new track in every province. After returning to their hometown of Halifax, NS, the album titled "Left to Write" was released under the name "Talkative", and was produced/engineered by Taran and his independent production company, called Shoebox Studios. In 2015 they rallied together with some Halifax Musicians (Adam Bourque, Brandon Campbell, Nico Zachariah) and have formed a 5-piece band that is making waves in Atlantic Canada with their unique new blend of classic genres. While playing in bands in my small hometown of Hubbards, I took up a special interest in audio production and started a project called Shoebox Studios. I pursued this interest into post secondary education at NSCC where I studied music arts - taught by an array of working professionals in Halifax. Two years later I graduated with a diploma focused on all aspects of musicianship including: advanced theory and ear training, music business, marketing, audio engineering, and performance. I've since been traveling the world with freewheeling adventures and snowboarding in the rocky mountains. Shoebox Studios (shoeboxstudios.ca) has since developed into photography and video as well as audio production. Through that, Tyler and I have done lots of musical work together and maybe that's why when we put our heads down for brothers...the sound came naturally. Keep your ears open as we introduce ourselves to the Halifax music scene.
I've been writing music since the lost years of middle school. Struggling to find my place as a teenager in the sticks was a lot easier with a pen and a pad. As soon as I finished high school I travelled to Europe, South America and eventually Vancouver to do some recording with Taran and his studio. This was my first exposure to a serious project, recording music that exemplifies the capability of creating anywhere, anytime, all across the country. The last six months have been dedicated to the new group and I couldn't be happier. The songs are flowing and the sound is strong.
